America doesn’t have so much of a taxing problem, as a spending problem. If spending were brought under control, there’d be no need for constant tax increases or deficit spending. And we’ll never bring the big spending items under control if we can’t even control the little stuff.

But the “little stuff” adds up. A million here and a million there and soon enough we’re talking real money. Which is exactly what has been happening over recent years with the practice of “earmarking” and other pork-barrel spending.

Of course, the real challenge here is that one man’s pork is another congressman’s taxpayer-funded ticket to re-election. To break their spending addiction will be an enormously difficult task, especially since so many political addicts are in denial and refuse to admit they have problem.

We need to shed some light on the problems of earmarking and pork-barrel spending in the hope that Congress will “change its evil ways.” These spending addicts are not likely to go gently into the night. We’re gonna have to give them a swift kick in the pants. Welcome to The Oink Report.
